'Act now' to create 'green corridor' through hundreds of Kenilworth homes
By James Smith 1st Nov 2026
The district council needs to "act now" to ensure a "green corridor" is created through hundreds of new homes being built on the edge of Kenilworth.
That is the message from town councillors who have unanimously backed a motion calling for the various developers around Leamington Road and Glasshouse Lane to come together and "tidy up" the land east of Kenilworth to create a Local Nature Reserve.
Cllr James Kennedy's motion will see Kenilworth Town Council write to its district colleagues, calling on them to "act now to ensure this happens" by creating a plan with the builders for the management of the corridor.
The Green Party councillor pointed to the fact that the Land East of Kenilworth Development Brief - a major planning document created to govern how the land is built on - makes it clear the green corridor is needed.
Town councillors want the corridor to run from Crewe Lane to Leamington Road to "increase biodiversity and create an environment that enhances health and wellbeing".
Speaking at last week's town council meeting, Cllr Kennedy said: "This motion emerges from three things.
"One, some residents came to me and asked what is going to happen with the green corridor in the land east of Kenilworth.
"Secondly, it was the realisation with previous developments there have often been green spaces which have been left over more or less, with indistinct management plans.
"I am thinking of Bullimore Wood, Cherry Orchard in a way which was left without any proper management or ownership or accessibility."
He continued: "There is a huge drag on all of the developments plus a few things that are still very unsatisfactory."
Cllr Kennedy said the various planning applications for the hundreds of homes on that side of town all include conditions for new trees, planting and for the management of the spaces for biodiversity.
The motion calls on Warwick District Council to contact Natural England and declare the land a Local Nature Reserve.
"This is a great opportunity to try and tidy this up," he said.
