HS2 closures becoming 'more frequent and more disruptive' in Kenilworth

Town councillors have raised concerns about the disruption caused by recent HS2 road closures and the knock-on effect on the surrounding road network.
Speaking at last week's Kenilworth Town Council meeting, members pointed to the impact of the latest Kenilworth Road closure which has seen the busy link to Coventry shut for three weeks for the second time this summer.
"It has been inconvenient for drivers trying to get from Kenilworth to Coventry and visa versa," Cllr Peter Jones said.
"It has brought much more traffic to Dalehouse Lane and Common Lane."
Meanwhile Cllr Alison Insley said the supposed cycle lane across the new bridge over the HS2 line is not suitable for bicycles.
"I have had a few complaints from cyclists about the cycle lane, because it asks cyclists to dismount - so you cannot use it as a cycle lane and cyclists have to become pedestrians," she said.
"I went down there myself and the surface they have put down is awful so I only did it once.
"I'm not doing it again, it's just not safe, that's why they have asked us to dismount.
"Yes it is open to cyclists and pedestrians - but it is not really."
The next public HS2 drop in sessions will be held on September 17 at the Kenilworth Centre from 2pm to 6pm for locals to ask questions,
And with further closures coming to Crackley Lane, Dalehouse Lane and the A46, the town council is set to have an update on local works from HS2's contractors in November.
Cllr James Kennedy added: "It seems that road closures are becoming more intense and more frequent and more disruptive.
"I notice for example, as a result of the A429 being closed, Hollis Lane has become a rat run and there are lots of cars going down there which is very unsatisfactory for such a narrow lane."
