The future of a piece of land previously home a controversial events bar remains unclear, a year after it was purchased by English Heritage.

Nub News reported last year the piece of land known as the 'Castle Pavilion' had been bought by the charity.

The land - which borders Kenilworth Castle - had been home to Garden Bar at the Pavilion before Warwick District Council (WDC) was successful in a legal bid to make it harder for events to be held there.

While there has been much speculation locally around what the five acre plot will be used for, Nub News understands no decision has yet been made on its future.

The charity, which manages the castle, admitted when it bought the Pavilions it did not have a "specific plan for its use yet".

Matt Bulford, head of historic properties for English Heritage in Warwickshire, said English Heritage "wanted to secure this vital link between the castle and the town".

"Kenilworth Castle has a privileged position at the heart of this community, and we are committed to working together as plans for its future progress," he added.

"We will, of course, be keeping local residents involved and informed along the way."

WDC's efforts to limit how the Pavilions could be used came after multiple complaints from neighbours who claimed the regular events were ruining their quality of life.

The community events had split local opinion however, with some 1,100 signatures backing a petition to keep it open.

But ultimately WDC secured a permanent 'article four direction', limiting what the Pavilions can be used for.

Speaking to Nub News in 2022 the former landowner Gabrielle Parry said she had "lost the will to fight" to keep the events running, and decided to put the Pavilions site up for sale.

English Heritage did not confirm how much the land was purchased for in 2023, but property agent Godfrey Payton was advertising it for offers over £250,000.
