Councillors praise success of legal ruling that forced popular Kenilworth events bar to close
District councillors have praised the success of a temporary order imposed to put a stop to community events at the Castle Pavilions site.
Warwick District Council last year approved a short-term article four direction to limit what events could be held on the land, and has now voted to make it permanent.
The ruling came after months of campaigning by neighbours who said the pop-up Garden Bar at the Pavilion was ruining their quality of life.
And with the bar no longer hosting events, councillors praised the effectiveness of the order and said it showed the council was listening to its residents.
"It shows that this council has acted on residents' concerns and also the town council's concerns and has brought this forward," said Cllr Richard Hales at last week's cabinet meeting.
"My thanks to the chief executive with his help initially in bringing this forward. It does resolve problems that existed on this piece of land."
He added: "It is incredibly important that the people who own this bit of land are respectful of the neighbours."
The order is the latest chapter in a long-running battle between neighbours and the owners of the Castle Road bar.
Speaking to Nub News last year the then owner Gabrielle Parry said she had "lost the will to fight" to keep the events running, this despite the support of some local residents.
Having already put the Pavilions site up for sale, it is now sold subject to contract - according to the website of property agent Godfrey Payton.
Cllr John Cooke also said the order had been a success.
"Almost within a week or so everything had stopped," he said.
"The event that they did have planned did not take place, it was a Christmas event.
"There has been much relief. The problem was solved."
The decision to make the article four order was unanimously supported by the council's cabinet last week.
