Kenilworth locals have been given a first glimpse of what the name signs will look like at the town's new Wetherspoon pub as it gears up for opening.

Work has begun on the new town centre pub, with the name of the new boozer having also recently caused great discussion on social media.

Many locals have criticised the name 'The Dictum of Kenilworth' which relates to the end of the siege of Kenilworth in 1266.

But now Wetherspoon has submitted a planning application to Warwick District Council for the new signage to be installed at the new pub at The Square.

Plans show the windows will be etched with the name 'The Dictum of Kenilworth' alongside illuminated name signs and menu boards.

If approved, signage will be installed on the front and back of the venue.

To the rear will be a small beer garden, which had originally been criticised by councillors.

The original planning application for the site was withdrawn, and a second one with changes to the outside area submitted and subsequently approved.

Work on the new pub began at the end of February, nearly three years after Wetherspoon announced it was coming to town.
