Mr Bennet's BrideBy Emma Wood
A prequel to Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice, the play takes place twenty five years before the novel is set.
James Bennet is the only son of Robert Bennet and has so far resisted all pressure to marry. Robert gives James six months to become engaged to a suitable young woman. The family lawyer sees an opportunity to throw his attractive, but foolish youngest daughter Emily in the way of the young landowner.
Robert's cousin, Benedict Collins comes to stay to ensure the way is still clear for his son to eventually inherit. James drops the bombshell that he is engaged to Emily, frustrating both Benedict's desire for his son's succession and Robert's desire for a marriage into a suitable family.
Will James realise that he has bound himself for life to the wrong woman?
