Harrison Wright came off the bench to bag a last-minute equaliser and rescue a vital point for Kenilworth Wardens.

Wardens wanted to take their cup form into the league, and started off the better of the two sides on the road at Coventry Copsewood.

Ten minutes in Eamonn Richards played the ball on the edge of the box to the returning Ben Edmunds who beat two players before shooting from the edge of the box with Copsewood's keeper making an excellent save to turn it around for a corner.

The visitors created three more openings in the first 15 minutes but were unable to truly test the keeper.

Against the run of play Copsewood played a long ball forward from inside their own box into the channel to Bradley Taylor. Taylor ran the ball from the half-way line, cut inside the defender and strongly fired through the legs of Tom Day.

After going ahead the hosts were firmly on top and only strong Wardens defending stopped Copsewood adding to their lead.

It was against the run of play again that Wardens drew level. On 40 minutes captain Sol Bloomer won a corner. Jack Boden’s excellent delivery was headed in by Ben Edmunds to level the scores.

After the restart Copsewood continued to dominate with strikers Taylor and Felix Donkor causing Wardens constant problems and Day forced into two excellent saves.

With substitutes Wright, Josh Wiltshire and debutant Hayden Twycross Wardens began to get a foothold in the game and looked to take the lead. T

Twice after Richards played in Edmunds his goal bound shots were blocked in the six yard box by Copsewood’s defence. Wright had a free header go agonizingly wide from a Bloomer cross and Wiltshire hit the post twice from excellent efforts.

In the 89th minute Copsewood had a corner where after an initial save on the line from Day it was bundled over by Taylor for his second of the game.

With mere seconds to spare Day hit a brilliant long ball forward over the defence, Wright challenged in ball in the Copsewood box, winning the first header before reacting quickest to the second ball and excellently finishing from a tight angle as the last kick of the game.

"A weird game to analyze, Copsewood I’m sure would say that they deserved to win and we’re better for large parts," player-manager Richards said after the game.

"Equally I felt we had really good chances to take the lead.

"It’s great that we managed to get a point considering being down in the last few seconds of the game and credit to Harrison again off the bench but all the four subs were good when they came on.

"This whole year has and will continue to be a transition, talent and ability is great, but there are a lot of areas we need to improve.

"We finished the game with only three players over the age of 22 and it’s pretty clear there is a lot of learning to do around decision making and positioning both on the ball and off it.

"Equally, Copsewood were better than 75% of the teams we’ve played this year and it’s never an easy place to play. So a point is good and happy to take it into the next game against Jet Blades"
