Manager Adam Maltby said he remains positive despite Kenilworth Wardens Reserves falling to a fourth consecutive defeat at the hands of Craven Athletic.

Lewis Barry had put the Wardens ahead inside half an hour, but Craven scored before the break and again with 20 minutes to go to clinch all three points.

"Unfortunately at the moment the results are not matching the performances as again overall I'm delighted with the application of the lads, it's just a matter of time before we turn that corner and get the result we're threatening," said Maltby.

"We've scored another goal of real quality and the only shame is that we've not added more because to be honest I think if we add a second it's probably a pretty comfortable afternoon."

Having lost three on the spin on the road, the Reserves returned to Glasshouse Lane with a depleted squad due to injuries which gave the chance for Adam Hnat, Tim Parker and Chris Lewis to make their first appearances for the side.

Wardens started the game with a real purpose moving the ball quickly and enjoying plenty of possession with Hnat seeing plenty of the ball and Barry looking a threat.

Wardens duly took the lead 27 minutes in when Sean Povey chased a clearance from the home side after a Craven attack he forced the defender into a mistake.

Povey was able to square to the arriving Barry who delightfully clipped the ball into the net before being clattered by the onrushing keeper.

As expected Craven came back into the game but Wardens restricted them to long range efforts.

They did though equalise with the last kick of the half. A quick counter attack from a Wardens free kick saw their striker turn the defence and slide past Stranks in the Wardens net.

The second half was a much tighter affair with both sides enjoying spells of possession, Wardens still created the better of the chances with Barry forcing further good saves from the keeper.

However with just over 20 minutes to go Craven found the winner from a corner which wasn't dealt with by Kenilworth allowing a free header to be tucked home.

Wardens again pushed for an equaliser but were unable to find it.

"It was a bit of a depleted squad today, we had Adam making his debut and two lads on the bench while good players lacking in match fitness due to some time out," Maltby added.

"Despite this the first half hour was as good as we've been since I came in, well organised good shape and restricting Craven to a few long shots.

"The timing of their first goal is disappointing and we will learn from it and manage the game better, the second we should deal with the corner but that's football it's fine margins and again today its just not gone with us.

"Adam was very good on debut, Povey again very busy a real handful up top, Lewis Barry was a constant threat and Will Kershaw in midfield excellent breaking up the play. The two lads off the bench also did well so plenty of encouraging signs moving into next week."
