Dan Twigger's 80th minute strike secured a 3-2 victory for a mixed Kenilworth Wardens' Saturday side over their new Sunday team this Saturday.
The Saturday 11 had been in cruise control with a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals by Lewis Barry and Sam Taylor.
However, Andy Legg's headed goal from a corner on 60 minutes, and his assist for Ben Edmunds to head home 10 minutes later brought the scores level again.
Twigger was to prove the difference though, after Phil Rudd intercepted a loose defensive clearance and threaded the striker in to finish calmly.
The first half saw the Sunday team start positively, being brave in possession and patient as they looked to create.
Whilst the Saturday side were able to use their experience and be more progressive on the ball going forward.
The Saturday 11 made the most chances in the game, with Barry's 20th minute strike being followed by a series of shots from outside the box.
Despite their creativity, the Saturday team were not able to double their lead until Taylor's 55 minute finish.
However, the second goal was perhaps against the run of play, as the Sunday side's second half press caused problems across the Saturday backline.
It was to be a catalogue of injuries, which forced senior goalkeeper Andy Whitehouse to pull on an outfielders shirt, that would ultimately cost the Sunday team.
As they pressed for a potential winner, players began to drop down, and the game was lucky to finish with 22 players on the field.
With only a month left before the season opener, first team manager Eamonn Richards took positives from the game.
"We've got a lot of quality in both sides," he said. "I am really confident that both reserves and Sunday side will be really competitive this year."
