Kenilworth Wardens men's football team have restarted their lockdown running competition after their football season was suspended due to the second national lockdown.

During the first lockdown in March, 17 members of the Wardens football team competed to see who could run the most miles during the period and who could set the fastest time for a three mile run.

Over 10 weeks, the 17 players ran a total 2671.17 miles.

56 year old Richard Ward took the gold after running 410.48 miles, narrowly beating friend and competitor Richard Hales, who literally fell on the home straight of his last run.

Jack Taylor ran the fastest three miles with an incredible time of 17.44.

Although the Wardens players were competing for prize money, generously the four winners gave their winnings straight to charity, to 'Tommy's, Baby Loss Awareness,' 'Make a Wish UK' and the Shakespeare Charity.

The group was set up by first team manager Eamonn Richards, who explained why they were repeating the lockdown group again "As well as trying to keep my players fit during lockdown, the main objective of the group was to give purpose and competition during the weeks of isolation.

"As a social worker I know mental health is so important and often not talked about, especially with men. I felt that the group made sure that everyone felt connected, gave a purpose to do exercise and allowed for constant positivity from the lads.

"I know without it, with the isolation and loneliness that accompanies lockdown, my mental health would have suffered.

"I'm hoping for the same effort, connectivity and positivity again for this lockdown. Creating that support network which is invaluable during these difficult times.

"We've had several new lads join this time round and we are hoping they rack up the miles since there are a few injuries and players who are currently covid-positive."

Throughout the season, Kenilworth Wardens are supported by LPC Therapies. Due to the high level of training of managing director Lily Cook, they are able to remain open throughout this phase of lockdown to help aid rehabilitation after injury.

Lily is passionate about mental health and healing, and is offering a free Nidra healing appointment to the winner of the competition and a £25 gift voucher for any sports therapy services.

Lily is also supporting the team by offering a weekly free or donation-based Zoom yoga class for the team.
