Town councillors are exploring how a 'green corridor' which runs next to hundreds of new homes in Kenilworth can be protected.

A report presented at the most recent Kenilworth Town Council meeting shows the scheme is in its early stages, but conversations are underway on the future of the ribbon of land near the A46.

The green space runs from Crewe Lane to Leamington Road, around the two major new housing estates being built off the latter and from Glasshouse Lane.

A council report said the land is owned by different people and at present there is no plan in place for maintaining it.

The town council is in talks with Warwick District Council to try and rectify this.

The report said: "Discussions with WDC officers show that there is an almost continuous green corridor through the land East of Kenilworth from Crewe Lane to the Leamington Road.

"The parcels of greenery are however in at least four different ownerships with potentially four different (and possibly incompatible) management plans.

"[Cllr] James Kennedy is working with Cllr Will Roberts, portfolio holder for green spaces and officers at WDC to explore how the whole corridor can be brought under a single management plan and be developed as a green corridor to support nature recovery and provide amenity for the residents of all the new developments."

Some 620 houses are being built at the estate off Glasshouse Lane, with another 550 being built off Leamington Road.
