Kenilworth Sporting have today announced the signing of Rio Hutson from Coventry United.

Rio is a young central midfielder and he has appeared twice so far for Coventry United this season, a side who currently sit seventh in the Midlands Football League Premier - three divisions above Kenilworth Sporting.

Rio played youth football with Coventry Sphinx where Kenilworth Sporting's manager Martin Ascroft, and assistant manager Luke Hopkins both saw him play in their roles as coaches.

He then had a two year period at Coventry City FC in their academy, before brief spells at Walsall and Northampton.

Since then he has been on the books at Coventry United.

At 16 years and eight months, Rio recently became the youngest goalscorer for Coventry United after coming off the bench to score a 90th minute winner in a 3-2 home victory for Coventry over Tividale at the end of September.

Speaking to Nub News after the signing, Luke Hopkins said "Rio's a great signing for Kenilworth and a great indicator of where this club is going. He is young, strong, quick, comfortable on the ball, with plenty of ability to win games.

"Coming in from Coventry United who are leading football in the Midland League in the local area at the minute, it's a big coup for us in div three.

"We must put on record our thanks to Terry [Anderson - CUFC manager] for understanding the lad is coming to play week in week out, and want to thank him for assisting with the move.

"Both myself and Martin have seen Rio as a junior player at Coventry Sphinx, having been involved in the junior teams either age group below and above Rio's.

"Hopefully we can get him playing regularly once the lockdown is over and get him games under his belt for experience which you can't beat as a youngster."

Martin Ascroft added "He is a great player for his age. A great prospect.

"Shows that although Kenilworth are in a lower league, we are doing things the right way."

Kenilworth Sporting currently sit top of the Midland Football League Division Three, having won seven of their eight games this season.

They will hope that Rio, as well as the other new signings for this season, will make the difference as they look to top the table in just their first season at Gypsy Lane.

Rio is Ascroft's fourth signing of the season, alongside Sam Watts, Sean Burke, and Charlie McConnachie.

Non-league football is hoped to return in early December following the second national lockdown.
