Kenilworth Wardens Reserves won their second game in a row by beating Coundon Court 1-0 in a tight game on a terrible pitch today.

The two games were separated by a five month gap.

Wardens Reserves' last game was back in November, a 2-1 league victory over Harbury FC.

Several regular players were unavailable today meaning that Wardens lined up with a much-changed side.

Coundon started off the better side, creating a few half chances in the early exchanges. However keeper Andy Whitehouse was able to smartly save on each occasion and keep the score at 0-0.

With the poor quality of the hard and narrow pitch affecting the play, Wardens began to play more directly.

After 20 minutes they found their reward. When the Coundon left back cleared under pressure from Charlie Waters, the ball feel to Eamonn Richards, who looped a high ball into the box.

The seemingly unrecognisable Sean Povey looped a header from 15 yards into the top corner, with the Coundon goalkeeper unable to keep the ball out.

Wardens had the ball in the net a second time after a free kick was Richards was turned in by Povey. However, Povey was adjudged to have pushed his defender in the build up and the goal was ruled out.

In the second half Coundon pressured for an equaliser, forcing Wardens to operate more defensively.

The Kenilworth side were dealt a blow when centre half Lee Jassi was forced off due to injury 10 minutes into the second half. A defensive reshuffle was needed.

Controversy hit when makeshift centre half Ross Farquharson made a last ditch tackle on Coundon's striker, which was deemed fair by the referee, to the upset of Coundon's players.

Much to Wardens' delight, the incident left Coundon's players and manager more interested in berating the referee rather than playing football.

Kenwilworth could have sealed the points when Sean Povey nearly scored his second with 20 minutes left.

Good work from Charlie Waters sent Povey through, however the Coundon keeper pulled off a good save to keep the scores close.

Despite the missed opportunities Wardens Reserves saw out the game to seal a 1-0 victory - their first clean sheet and second win of the season.
