Thousands of visitors have headed to Kenilworth's new swimming pools since they opened in the middle of July.

The multi-million-pound facilities in Abbey Fields welcomed locals for the first time on Saturday 11 July following years of construction in the town-centre park.

Operator Everyone Active said at the time, 2,800 visitors attended in the first weekend.

A report presented to Kenilworth Town Council earlier this month revealed how many users had been in the first month of opening.

"Abbey Fields Swimming Pools is open and is enjoying good visitor numbers," it said.

"Approximately 22,000 visits were made in the first month of opening from around 8,000 individuals."

After the opening weekend, Warwick District Council's portfolio holder for safer, healthier and active communities, Cllr Jim Sinnott, said: "It's great to see this wonderful new facility open and up and running and busy.

"We very much hope that additional year-round pool space and accessible features offered here will be welcomed by families, schools and swimming clubs, from across the district as well as less confident swimmers and disabled users, and also that the café will become a vibrant hub for all park users, not just those visiting the pool.

"The opening of Abbey Fields completes Warwick District Council's multi-million-pound investment in the district's leisure centres over the past decade which has included Newbold Comyn, St Nicholas Park and Castle Farm clearly demonstrating our commitment to the health and wellbeing of local residents both now and for the future."

The new centre is open from 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday, and 7am to 5pm at weekends.
