Kenilworth Wardens Reserves put five past Crick Athletic to end a run of five consecutive defeats in emphatic style.

Wardens travelled to Crick for the Coventry Alliance Three game with both sides sat on 12 points from 14 games.

It was Wardens first game since 12 March - when they had lost 7-2 to Crick.

Wardens started brightly with some lovely two-touch passing, keeping the ball well and moving the Crick midfield around.

Joe Ferraz's first of two half-chances came on 20 minutes where a loose ball fell kindly and from the edge of the area he hit straight at the keeper where he'll feel he should've done better.

However a few moments later a perfectly weighted Watt through ball sent him towards the box, after rounding the oncoming keeper Ferraz lifted a chipped effort just wide of the far post.

The deadlock was broken though on 27 minutes when another clever pass, this time from Isaac Bloomer, sent midfield partner Alex Waters down towards the left side. Surging into the box Waters appeared to overrun but his strike hit the defender and rebounded back off him over the keeper for a fully deserved opener.

Wardens continued to dictate, limiting Crick to only a few efforts from long range.

On the stroke of half-time a sublime ball from Watt found a well-timed run from Ferraz who chipped cleverly over the onrushing keeper to put Wardens two to the good.

The first 15 minutes of the second half both saw both teams struggling having both made changes at the break.

But the fresh legs seemed to work for Wardens when Charlie Waters set up Josh Loan-Clarke to fire over from 12 yards out.

The best goal of the game came on 70 minutes when a ball sent down the left saw skipper Archie Evans put in a cross of real quality. The ball narrowly evaded everyone except Charlie Waters who was able to retrieve and pull back to brother Alex whose clever flick pass to Watt was taken down on the chest before he fired into the corner from 20 yards.

Three became four on 75 minutes when Charlie Waters fired in at the near post from just inside the corner of the area after a fine solo run.

Wardens could have and should have put the game completely to bed when Bloomer intercepted a ball and with a runner either side had a three on one situation but unfortunately a poor pass allowed the defender to hack clear.

With eight minutes to play the energetic Evans got in on the act. Overlapping down the left he ran onto another pass from Watt to fire again at the keeper's near post to make it 5-0.

"I spoke before the game about how this team simply out run us last time we played and we needed essentially to out work them as quality wise I was never worried," said manager Adam Maltby.

"If we won our battles in the middle it could be a good afternoon for us. Luckily with Isaac, Josh and Alex in there they did just that the work rate was excellent.

"I can't speak highly enough today of the guys we were excellent down both sides Archie very good on the left, Rossi on the right had an excellent hour till his withdrawal.

"The most pleasing aspect for me is that we've a clean sheet and also we've five different scorers today which is excellent."
