Kenilworth Wardens Sunday side made it three from three with a convincing win over Upper Lighthorne, maintaining the club's winning start to the season.

Lighthorne started the better side with their pressing and physicality, putting wardens under pressure.

Lighthorne were lucky not to go ahead, with their consistent pressure, only not going ahead due to some brilliant saves from Eddie Morris and the else centre half partnership of James Carro and captain George Walker.

Against the run of play, wardens created positions to score, however Lighthorne were able to get bodies back before a shot on goal.

The first half finished goalless, with Wardens fortunate to be level and Lighthorne being the better side.

That all changed in the second half, with the half time introductions by Paddy Breslin of Harrison Wright, Joe Feraz and Alex Waters.

On the 50th minute mark, Waters played a brilliant channel ball to Toby Wells, who calmly slotted home to make it 1-0.

Five minutes later, Waters turned to scorer, then Wright broke down the right wing, pulling back to Waters who finished on the edge of the box with the outside of his right boot into the corner, leaving the goalkeeper no chance.

In the next 15 minutes, Lighthorne rallied, having two one-on-one situations, however missing the target with both.

Wardens made it three on the 70th minute mark, when another long ball forward found Wells, who scored to make it his sixth goal in three games.

Feraz had a chance to make it 4-0 after a through ball from Waters. Feraz calmly lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper, however missed the open goal he had created.

Feraz made up for his miss minutes later and added Wardens' fourth. Waters was once again involved, driving from midfield and hitting a shot goal bound, which hit the inside of the post. Feraz reacting the quickest, passed in to get his well deserved goal.

With minutes left to play, Wright once again brought down the right, putting a brilliant cross into the box, forcing an own goal from the lighthorne player.

This means after three from three Wardens' young side are top of the league on nine points, and across all three teams, Wardens have won seven from seven games so far.

Speaking after the game Breslin said: "That's comfortably the best performance of the season.

"Whilst we rode our luck in the first half, our second 45 was brilliant both on and off the ball. We continue to learn as a group and long may that continue."
