Former Blackburn Rovers and England goalkeeper Tim Flowers has been announced as the new manager of Stratford Town FC.

The Kenilworth-born Premier League winner has replaced Paul Davis who has departed after three years in charge of the Southern League Premier Division Central side.

Davis took to Twitter to tell fans he was asked to "work alongside" Flowers, but later announced that he would step down having "not even had 24 hours to think about it".

Former Solihull Moors boss, Flowers will take charge of his first Stratford game tonight as the Bards host Nuneaton Borough at the Arden Garages Stadium.

Stratford currently sit two points above the relegation spots, having won just six matches from 15 this campaign.

In a statement on the Stratford Town website Flowers said: "Bards fans can expect an honest, humble and hardworking team that tries to create chances and endeavours to entertain our supporters."

Flowers, 54, won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1995 and went on to make 177 appearances for the Lancashire club.

The former most expensive footballer in world football started his managerial career in 2007 as the assistant to Ian Dowie at Coventry City.

He has since managed at Stafford Rangers, twice at Northampton Town, and took the top job at Macclesfield Town just 18 days before the club was disbanded by a High Court Ruling in September 2020.
