Ryan Froggatt's late equaliser rescued a vital point for relegation threatened Earlswood Town at Gypsy Lane.

But the draw leaves fifth-placed Kenilworth Sporting six points adrift of the Midland Football League Division Two's top four.

Sporting, who have made a habit of scoring late goals themselves in recent weeks, were victims of their own poor finishing and naive defending.

"To say I'm disappointed is an understatement," said manager Martin Ascroft.

"At both ends of the pitch today we weren't clinical enough."

The conditions made for a poor start to the game and it looked like it would be stalemate going into the break, but Jason Evans' jinking run through the Earlswood defence allowed him the space to hammer past Alastair Lewis on the cusp of half time.

Kenilworth began to dominate in the second half but failed to take their chances, with Lewis keeping the away side in the game.

But on 87 minutes Earlswood were rewarded for their persistence. A cleared corner was pumped back into the box, and headed back across goal by the unmarked Leadun Dunlevy to Forgatt - who was also in space - to volley home and clinch the point.

Sporting, who are now undefeated in six games, will host league leaders Knowle next Saturday.

But Ascroft has warned his players they will need to step up if they are to get anything out of the game.

"If we weren't creating chances to miss I'd be worried, but when the opposition are limited single figure chances we have to defend better," he added.
