Ben Edmunds bagged a hat trick as Wardens bounced back from last week's defeat with a comprehensive 4-1 win against title chasing Coventry Colliery.

Colliery's assault on the league had been commanding, winning nine and drawing one of their last 10 games and scoring 57 goals in the process.

But they could not have had a worse start in Kenilworth where Edmunds opened the scoring within seconds. Alex Waters won the ball back before playing in the forward who outpaced the Colliery captain, driving 40 yards before cutting inside and stroking the ball home.

The visitors bounced back quickly though, Ryan Alexander heading home his 12th goal of the season from a cross within a minute of the restart.

The game then settled down into a pattern of Colliery dominating possession and Wardens looking to counter.

Colliery came closest when a Tyrone Wilson effort was excellently turned over by Wardens keeper Tom Day.

The hosts came close twice from Eamonn Richards set pieces, with Edmunds and Brewitt both narrowly missing the target.

On 25 minutes both teams had the ball in the net, however both were ruled off for offside and Wardens were grateful to Alex Bradley for his clearance off the line after a defensive mix up.

Minutes after half time Edmunds won a free kick in the right hand corner. His cross was met by the towering Edmunds who flicked into the bottom corner to restore Wardens' lead for Richards sixth assist of the season.

Colliery pushed for an equalizer with Wardens defence excellently defending the barrage of crosses into the box. Alexander came closest to equalizing but his effort was incredibly saved by Day's left foot.

On 75 minutes captain Sol Bloomer won the ball back deep in his own half and played to Edmunds on the halfway line. Edwards toyed with his full back, finally beating him in the box and pulled back to Twigger on the penalty spot. Twigger took a touch and passed calmly into the corner for Twigger's 21st of the season.

Three minutes later a long kick from Day was missed by every and set Edmund's through on goal, Edmund's rounded the keeper and kicked home for his hat trick and his 10th goal contribution in only four starts this season.

In the last 10 minutes Colliery were indebted to their keeper who stopped three certain goals from Edmunds, but the game ended with the score line at 4-1.

"Colliery are a really talented side and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season," Richards said after the game.

"It may sound bizarre but I thought we were going to win today, we have a formula and tactical plan that when we have all the right personal we are excellent at and can beat any team.

"Funnily enough half time I was annoyed and made that clear because didn't feel like we were maximising our performance, we definitely did that in the second half and actually could have won by more.

"Obviously Ben and Twigger were unplayable and all 15 players put in a proper performance.

"But tactically the key players today were Sol and Brewitt who just dug in and lead the team with their work off the ball."
