Five goals in 25 minutes saw Kenilworth Wardens come back from 4-1 down to claim all three points from AFC Coventry.

Having wasted a catalogue of chances to beat AFC in the reverse fixture, Wardens went into Saturday's Coventry Alliance Division One clash confident that they would be able to fight those previous wrongs.

However they got off to the worst possible start when Alex Waters played a routine back pass back to goalkeeper Andy Whitehouse which bobbled off the uneven surface over the keeper's foot for an own goal.

AFC Coventry went two up in even more bizarre circumstances.

After a corner was headed wide, Whitehouse collected the ball from off the pitch and the referee appeared to gesture for a goal kick.

But as the Kenilworth shot stopper put the ball down the Coventry striker ran at the ball and booted it into the back of the net.

The referee awarded the goal stating he was gesturing that the ball was kept in play, despite the linesman flag.

Wardens changed their system at half time, but immediately went 3-0 after brilliant play from AFC Coventry forward, who beat four Kenilworth players in the box before squaring it for an open goal.

Wardens pulled one back after a set piece broke down, Pearson squared to Andy Legg who poked home.

With a foothold back into the game Kenilworth found themselves 4-1 down after a cross cleared by the knee of James Brewitt was wrongly adjudged to have been hand ball.

AFC converted the spot kick and restored their three goal advantage with 30 minutes to go.

At this point, manager Eamonn Richards made changes bringing on the energy of Josh Loan-Clarke and Charlie Waters.

Wardens found a second goal after a set piece fell to Richards, who played a clever pass to Pearson to sweep in.

With 25 minutes left Wardens continued to push forward. Captain Sam Taylor put a brilliant corner in, Brewitt reacted the quickest to pull the game back to 4-3.

Wardens then found an equaliser as a free kick was flicked on by Tom Griffith and Josh Loan-Clarke rose the highest to loop the ball home.

With 10 minutes left, Wardens were pushing for a winner, and it came from a Taylor free kick played in to vice captain Griffith to power home.

With 30 seconds left, game-changer Josh Loan-Clarke played in Man of the Match Legg to pass in his second goal of the game and wrap the game up for the hosts.

Speaking after the game Richards said: "As a player, that was brilliant, I love it to pieces.

"As a manager never, in over 200 games of managing, have I ever dealt with a game like that.

"What it really shows to me is that our big players, Whitehouse, Griffith, Taylor, who lead the lead today, pushed us forward and made us run more."
