Can Kenilworth Sporting bounce back this weekend?

Kenilworth Sporting suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend, a 2-1 loss to Upton Town. This week they hope to get their season back on track as they host Birmingham Tigers in just their second game at Gypsy Lane.[.L]

Sporting had won their first six games of the season before their visit to Upton last weekend, a run that had taken them to the top of the Midlands League Division Three.

Whilst the Kenilworth outfit remain top of the table, there is a chance that they could be overtaken by fourth-placed Inkberrow if they were to win their two games in hand.

Kenilworth Sporting Manager Martin Ascroft has said to Nub News ahead of tomorrow's game "Saturdays defeat was the kick up the backside we all needed."

But added that "Key players that were not available are back involved this weekend."

The full compliment of players will certainly boost the home side, as they look to bounce back and claim their seventh victory of the season.

Ascroft has had frank words with his young squad this week, telling them that "I'm looking for a reaction to last week's below par performance.

"You have to earn the right to be part of this squad, and I'm looking at you individually as well as collectively to get back to the standard you set in the first six games."

And what a standard they have set.

Sporting have scored 21 times and conceded just seven in their ascent to the top of the table.

Meanwhile their Birmingham opponents this season sit 14th in the league, with just three points from the opening six fixtures. Their start to the season has seen them concede 22 times, scoring 13, so the form guide suggests that the three points will be staying at Gypsy Lane this weekend.

However, given that last weekend's result was the first set back for this Kenilworth team, which after all is new for the 2020/1 season, it remains to be seen how they will respond to the defeat.

That being said, Sporting have shown enough attacking flair, and enough defensive nouse thus far this season, that if they are to return to their best, they should come away with all three points this weekend.

Kick off is at 3pm tomorrow, at Gypsy Lane. Kenilworth Nub News will be bringing you the full time result.
