Kenilworth Wardens made it three wins in a row after an emphatic win over Jaguar/Daimler today
Wardens ran away 6-2 winners today to reach third spot in the Coventry Alliance Division Two.
Wardens started the game brilliantly. Good work from Kingston set up Jack Taylor down the right hand side, his eventual cross was turned in, with Guy Person claiming his fourth goal of the year.
Despite having several chances, mostly falling to Andy Legg - who was clearly desperate to score - Wardens failed to capitalise on the their advantage and were underwhelming for most of the first half.
On 40 minutes Wardens finally started to play simple football, Phil Rudd played a pass into Andy Legg, both him and the defender missed the ball and it rolled to Guy Pearson. Pearson beat his man on the outside and hit a tame shot, which slipped through the fingers of the Daimler keeper to make it 2-0.
Daimler got back into the game immediately. A long throw fell to their centre midfielder, who turned Wardens' centre half and crossed a sharp ball which was turned in, leaving goalkeeper Whitehouse with no chance of saving it.
Wardens restored their two goal lead minutes later, after great inter-play between Rudd and Jack Taylor. Taylor was played in behind the Jaguar back line and played a perfect pass to Andy Legg, who smashed in to make it 3-1 going into half time.
In the second half, a similar pattern of play emerged, Wardens playing not quite to their best, continuing to create and miss chances.
Wardens were given a scare when Daimler pulled a goal back from a corner, to make it 3-2 after 55 minutes.
However, the away side hit back immediately. Pearson picked up the ball on the left hand side and played a perfect 50 yard crossfield pass to Jack Taylor in the box. He managed to pull the ball back to captain and brother Sam who calmly stroked the ball into the corner of the net from 15 yards out.
Wardens then secured a fifth when Pearson put a brilliant cross towards Andy Legg, both goalkeeper and defender missed it, leaving Legg to tap in for his second.
Despite a sin-bin for a Daimler and Wardens player apiece, the game opened up with Wardens continuing to create chances.
With two minutes to go, Manager Eamonn Richards played a ball into Sam Taylor, who returned the favour and set up his brother Jack for his first goal of the day.
Despite Wardens not playing at their best and never getting out of second gear, they won by a four-goal margin to bring them to third place.
