Kenilworth Rugby Club have announced that the planning application for the development of their new ground has been submitted.

The application includes the construction of a new clubhouse, sports pitches, landscaping, earthworks, parking, access and ancillary facilities.

The move will see the club relocate from Glasshouse Lane to the east of Warwick Road, behind Kenilworth Cricket Club, adjacent to the new housing development.

The move is sanctioned for development under the Warwick District Local Plan 2011-2029, full details of which can be found here.

Before the submission the club encouraged public consultation before the application was submitted.

Project Co-ordinator Mike Blakeman said that such feedback from residents, and local groups had been very positive. "I gave presentations to Kenilworth Town Council, and Leek Wootton Town Council, and both were very supportive."

Comments on the application can still be made, this can be done by following this link to the Warwick District Council website.

Some concerns were raised about the traffic around the new site, however this is nothing new as similar concerns were raised before the housing developments in that section of town.

Whilst traffic and the speed of traffic would not be directly under the control of the Rugby Club, they have said that they would be "happy to support" and necessary measures.

The new facilities are greatly anticipated, with the new clubhouse designed to satisfy RFU and Sport England regulations, it will be a great base not only for the club but also other organisations to use as a venue for meetings and conferences.

The Statutory Period closes on December 8. Should all go well and it is approved, the club will then look into working with developers to move the project along.

As pitches will need two full growing seasons before they can be played on, the club hope to start pitch work this coming spring, in the hopes that rugby will be played on the new site from the 2022/3 season onwards.

The submission of the application comes as another piece of good news for the club, as they announced recently that the Women's Team had enjoyed their fourth promotion in just five years.
