On a very pleasant early Spring Day Kenilworth hosted Nuneaton in a local derby.

The game was preceded by a pre match lunch hosted by A.J.A. Architects who have been sponsoring Kenilworth Rugby for a number of years.

The final score did not really reflect the match, as Kenilworth again showed grit, resilience and tenacity in all facets of the game.

The Kenilworth team are just unable to finish promising build up work and too often turn over the ball in areas of the attack.

The game itself was open and exciting. Both teams wanting to play with ball in hand in the right areas of the field. Nuneaton, opened the scoring on driving maul off a lineout close to the Kenilworth line this produced a try for their outstanding forwards. Tight head prop, Ben Dawes was the pick of the Nuneaton pack and he scored on nine minutes and 20 minutes.

There followed some good spells of outstanding defence from Kenilworth and a limited time in attack which yielded no points at this stage. Nuneaton scored again through good passing skills this time through their second row Tom Aherne, quickly followed up by a try for their winger, Travis Bennett -Allcock.

Nuneaton Captain Tom Aherne scored again on 34 minutes and this was followed up by a well taken try from winger Harry Beverley.

Four of these tries were converted by fly half Lucas Brindley. Kenilworth had defended with good shape and aggressive line speed but could not match Nuneaton's physicality and power.

The score at half time was 0-43.

As expected, the game opened up as we went into the second half and Kenilworth had several continuous attacks which showed resilience and promise. Eventually they scored on 46 minutes through their back row, Joe Stockbridge, and this was converted by Jon Lowden.

Kenilworth showed resilience and determination even with limited attacking ball. The Kenilworth forwards were doing an effective a job as possible.

The lineout was functioning well with Charlie Morris's throwing to the fore. In the scrum Kenilworth were under frequent pressure.

Both teams gave their bench players time on the pitch and Nuneaton's bench was stronger. Consequently, Nuneaton followed this up with six more tries.

Their two wingers polishing off the build-up work by the rest of the team with efficiency and ruthlessness. Five of these tries were converted by Lucas Brindley.

The final score was 7-83.
