On the club's final day of this year's most strange and shortened cricket season, Kenilworth Cricket Club's Sunday XI entertained neighbours, Leek Wootton, in a 40 overs a side friendly match. The fixture was played in front of a large crowd of supporters from both clubs, who enjoyed the last rays of the summer sun.
Kenilworth 269-5 (40 overs) beat Leek Wootton 162-10 (39 overs) by 107 runs
Kenilworth's 107-run victory yesterday atoned for their defeat at Leek Wootton's hands two weeks earlier, and was the perfect way to see out the season.
Kenilworth posted a stiff 269-5 off their 40 overs with openers Dan Horner and Henry Curran sharing in a first wicket partnership of 91.
Curran fell for 35 (4 x 4) and then Horner teamed up with Adam Huxford for the second wicket and they put on a further 96.
Horner departed after making 67 (8 x 4) and then Huxford took control and made 85 (11 x 4).
Youngster, Shyaan Imam, then added 25 towards the end of the innings.
Leek Wootton's Garman took 2-46, Lota 2-52 and Ward 1-25.
Replying, Leek Wootton's openers put on 66 for their first wicket, with Elliott Haynes-Sorrell making 21 and Somerville 40. In at numbers three and four, Budd added a further 40 and Jenkins 15 respectively, but no other batsmen reached double figures afterwards and their run chase fell away.
For Kenilworth, Sam Leach took 3-33, Tom Skinner 2-20 whilst there was a wicket each for youngsters James Sparks, Dan Roden and for Huxford and Horner with a run out accounting for the other wicket to fall. Curran snaffled two outfield catches as the visitors were bowled out in 39 overs for 162.
A good game of well-supported and enjoyable cricket brought the curtain down on a good and friendly season for both clubs.
Club Secretary Andy Smith said after the match "The club thanks all those players, supporters and visitors who came to the ground this season, to those who helped get the games on and those behind the scenes.
"Certainly, a season to remember and one to have fortunately taken place with some good performances and achievements."
