The Virgins and Castle are now offering a takeaway service for their Sunday roasts

The Famous Virgins & Castle on the old High Street in Kenilworth has launched an online Christmas Jumper event and a Sunday roast takeaway as they find themselves forced to remain closed under tier three restrictions.

The 16th century pub, that is part of the Everards Brewery and owned by hospitality group Caviar & Chips, had to close its doors, along with every other pub in the country, on Thursday, November 5, and remains closed along with all Warwickshire pubs, courtesy of the county's tier three restrictions.

Waverley Day Centre is back open to the public again

As the second national lockdown comes to an end, and the tiered restrictions come into place, now more than ever are we in need of community groups and facilities to help look after one another. Waverley Day Centre, on Waverley Road, is at the forefront of this in Kenilworth.

Operated by the charitable organisation Kenilworth Community Care, Waverley Day Centre has a long history of caring for elderly people in the town, and is now reopening its doors once more.

Organised by the 4th Kenilworth Scout Group, the traditional local Christmas card collection and delivery service will still take place this year, with collections running from tomorrow (December 5) until Friday, December 18.

This year, owing to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions on outdoor events, the Kenilworth Lions' much-loved pre-Christmas carol concert is going online, and it will be completely free to watch on YouTube in the comfort of your own home.

The concert has been produced by members of the lions working with a professional choirmaster and video producer, and contains all of the usual ingredients - your favourite carols to sing along to, accompanied by the Salvation Army band, plus local schoolchildren, readings and performances of the Christmas story and much more besides.

Warwick District Council have today announced two new grant support initiatives to help the hospitality sector in Kenilworth and the rest of the district.

From Friday 4 December, qualifying hospitality and leisure businesses which have been mandated to close due to Tier Three restrictions, can apply for a one-off payment of £2000 through the Additional Restrictions Grant Discretionary Scheme.
