Wetherspoon submits fresh application for new Kenilworth pub
Fresh plans to turn the former Poundland in Kenilworth into a pub have been submitted by Wetherspoon after a previous scheme was withdrawn.
The pub giant withdrew its previous application in September stating there was a "discrepancy" in the plans and that it was simpler to "to resubmit rather than amend the application".
But now a new scheme has been put forward to Warwick District Council saying it "addresses the comments raised in the previous application in relation to noise and highways and follows informal discussions with the highway authority".
Much of the internal design remains the same as the original proposal.
Internal walls are still intended to be knocked down to open up the ground floor space for a bar and kitchen to be installed.
Wetherspoon has retained its plan to remodel the front of the building, with large folding windows and doors allowing more daylight in. If approved, the building would be rendered cream.
The first floor could also be opened up slightly at the front to provide "a two-storey void" at the entrance.
However, the most obvious change is to the beer garden at the back of the pub. Wetherspoon now says the terraced area will be surrounded by screens of 1.55metres to 4.1 metres with an enclosed canopy area.
Deliveries would be made on Barrowfield Lane and taken to the back of the pub.
So far 18 letters of support have been made to the plans, with five objections.
Kenilworth Town Council objected to the previous application due to the impact the beer garden would have on nearby houses.
The council will discuss the new plans on Thursday night (October 20).
Wetherspoon, which operates 900 pubs across the UK, has also applied for a venue license for The Square unit.
