A memorial service is set to be arranged to scatter the ashes of Colin the white wallaby after he was put down by vets last week.

Rowington-based 608 Equine Vets announced on Thursday (October 13) that the marsupial had died after reportedly being hit by a lorry.

And with tributes, photographs and videos being shared widely on social media over the weekend, Kenilworth resident Lulu Di Minto has announced that she will hold a small service in Colin's memory.

"A lot of people held him in their hearts really," she told Nub News.

"Obviously a lot of animals get killed on the road but it's the fact that he was so unusual, not something you see every day, and that people felt sad thinking that he was out there on his own the whole time.

"I think that struck a chord with people in Kenilworth and the local area."

Lulu, who arranges memorial services for a living, said the full details were yet to be confirmed but said it would probably take place on a Sunday morning in the coming weeks.

And with Colin already having been cremated by Heart of England Pet Cremation Service, Lulu said she hoped the ashes would be scattered in the woods around Lapworth.

"We are not exactly sure how that is going to pan out as yet, but we do want to scatter his ashes, that will definitely happen," she said.

"And I am going to ask the gentlemen who found him and stayed with him if he wants to be the one to scatter the ashes. I thought that would be quite appropriate."

And with people already volunteering to help organise and attend the event, Lulu said the huge reaction to last week's news was to be expected.

"I'm not surprised by the local reaction, he was obviously something of a local celebrity," she added.

"A lot of people didn't believe it at first until they saw the videos of him.

"He was obviously very unusual, and very loved, and I am not surprised in the slightest."

Details of the ceremony will be shared on social media once they have been confirmed.
