Plans to install 5G mast next to Kenilworth Cemetery revealed
Plans to install a 5G mast next to Kenilworth Cemetery have been submitted to Warwick District Council (WDC).
If approved the scheme would see the 15-metre high communications mast installed on a grass verge on Oaks Road.
Applicant CK Hutchison Networks (UK) Limited - which owns telecommunications and internet service provider Three - said there is an "acute" need for the station to "provide effective service coverage" in the area.
The company also said the height is the minimum required for the area.
"In these unprecedented times of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is recognised that high-speed mobile connectivity is the lifeblood of a community; facilitating educational benefits, providing access to vital services, improving communications with the associated commercial benefits for local businesses, enabling e-commerce and facilitating the increased need and demand for working from home, as well as enjoying access to social, media and gaming for leisure time activities," the application said.
CK Hutchinson was last year refused planning permission to build a 15-metre tall 5G mast on a residential street in the town.
The proposed pole on the pavement at the junction of Whites Row and St John's Street was thrown out by district planners who said it would negatively impact the appearance of the area.
