Multiple fire crews were called to tackle a blaze at an 18th century home in Balsall Common yesterday (May 24).

The fire has destroyed much of the Holly Lane house, which was recently on the market for £1.25 million with property agent Sheldon Bosley Knight.

The house - which was empty at the time - needed eight crews to attend the scene and put out the fire.

A Kenilworth Fire Station spokesperson said: "Just after 9am we were requested by West Midlands Fire Service to attend a house fire off Holly Lane in Balsall Common with a crew from Canley Fire Station.

"The incident involved an empty domestic property completely damaged by fire.

"At its height eight fire engines from across Solihull, Coventry and Birmingham attended."

When the property was marketed earlier this year, the brochure described it as a "Once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire this character filled, traditional home, which dates back to the late 18th Century, with immense scope for tasteful renovation and updating."

The cause of the fire has not be revealed.
