Kenilworth planning roundup: showhomes open, fence battle and 'eyesore' hall
By James Smith 31st Jan 2026
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
School Site Worries
A property developer has lost its latest bid to repurpose a village hall described as a "dreadful eyesore" after a planning inspector threw out its appeal.
In 2024 Warwick District Council (WDC) refused to acknowledge the Meadows Hut in Stoneleigh is no longer designated for community use - the latest in a decade-long saga around the building.
JBC Property Developments said the building has been vacant since 2013, and claimed the past three owners have all tried to find a new use for it, as the timber structure is no longer suitable for public use.
Fence Battle Ends
A 156-metre stretch of fence in Kenilworth is set to remain in place after a planning battle with Warwick District Council.
'Premier Garden Centre' was refused retrospective planning permission for the boundary in 2023, having installed the fence without permission the year before.
The company then submitted a planning appeal after being told to take down the fence.
Showhomes Open
Three new showhomes have been unveiled at a Burton Green housing estate.
Spitfire Homes has unveiled the homes at its 182-house 'Clarendon' estate on Cromwell Lane.
The first completion will be this month with multiple reservations having been made already.
