Kenilworth planning roundup: 425 houses underway, driving range and school's demolition
Here are the biggest Kenilworth planning stories from the past week.
Work Underway on 425 houses
The first homes in a development that will see 425 new houses built in Westwood Heath are nearing completion.
Developer Crest Nicholson is in the first phase of its Westwood Heath housing estate which will see 77 private homes built on the Westwood Heath Road site.
The Surrey-based developer was first given approval for the scheme in 2018, despite objections from locals.

Special School to be Knocked Down
A special school near Kenilworth will now be demolished and replaced with 25 houses after council planners backed a scheme to build a much larger SEND facility in Coventry.
Plans for the Stoneleigh Road school, which received an inadequate Ofsted rating last year, were recommended for approval by council officers.
A number of complaints had been raised by members of the public about the number of houses that were being considered, but council officers said the scheme was in keeping with the rest of the Kenilworth Road Conservation Area.
-------------
Self-build Scheme Blocked
A plan to self-build a house on a plot of land in Earlswood has been dashed because councillors decided it was a threat to the green belt.
Applicants J and R Riley had applied for permission to Stratford District Council where planning officers recommended that it should be granted.
But at the latest meeting of the planning committee, councillors rejected the scheme because the site was not only outside of the built up area boundary of the village but also within the green belt.
-------------
Inhabitable Cottage
Plans to make a Grade II listed cottage in Kenilworth "habitable" have been blocked by district councillors who said the impact on a local church was more important.
The scheme would have seen a first floor extension built at the back of a High Street cottage which overlooks the graveyard at St Nicholas Church.
The applicant said the extension was needed to provide a proper upstairs washroom, saying that the house had been unoccupied for three years because of the lack of facilities.
-------------
Driving Range
Plans to build a 30-bay covered driving range at The Warwickshire Hotel and Country Club have been submitted to Warwick District Council.
The Leek Wootton club, which has two "championship standard" 18 hole golf courses, has applied to demolish its existing driving range and replace it with a more modern design.
Currently the club has 23 bays, only nine of which are covered.
