Here are the biggest Kenilworth planning stories from the past week.

New Local Plan

The deputy chief executive of Stratford-on-Avon District Council says a new joint local plan with Warwick District Council remains on track despite political changes.

The South Warwickshire Local Plan (SWLP) will set out proposed locations for up to 35,000 houses, workplaces and infrastructure across both districts in the years ahead and is one of a number of initiatives the two councils are working together on. 

The authorities had been negotiating a full merger but that fell through at the start of 2022, with a change of political landscape following the recent local elections likely to bring fresh perspectives to the table. 

Both councils had been Conservative-led but the Liberal Democrats have taken outright control at Stratford for the first time, while a Green-Labour coalition has come together to run Warwick District Council, changes that led to the proposed SWLP timetable being placed "under review".

Abbey Fields

Councillors have called for answers over the continued delays to the new swimming pool in Abbey Fields.

Having been put back originally as Warwick District Council (WDC) finalised the contracts for the project, it has further stalled following the archaeological discoveries under the old leisure centre.

But with no announcement having been made on when work will start on building the new pool, local Liberal Democrats have urged the council to keep local residents informed.

Kenilworth Greenway and HS2

Access to the Kenilworth Greenway is set to be improved this summer, HS2 has confirmed.

The Balsall Common end of the route is regularly flooded and has been "unpassable for many years".

But the high speed rail developer has announced a new temporary link to the greenway from the Hallmeadow Road roundabout, as part of its project to open a new haul road.
