The Kenilworth branch of Nationwide will only be open two days a week from the end of the November, the building society has confirmed.

From Monday November 29 the Warwick Road bank will only be open on Mondays and Thursdays.

Nationwide said the decision was made due to declining visitor numbers, customers using more than one bank and the increased use of online banking.

A statement on the bank's website said: "Long before the pandemic, the number of people visiting Kenilworth branch had been steadily declining; we saw a drop of 40 per cent between 2015 and 2020.

"It's also the case that 79 per cent of Kenilworth branch members are already registered for online banking and only 61 per cent of members use the branch exclusively."

Nationwide, which says it is committed to keep a branch open in every town, also has branches in Coventry and Leamington Spa.

Staff at the branch will now spend Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays supporting customers virtually.

The statement added: "Our colleagues will be able to support the needs of even more members, whether that's responding to their online messages, answering calls or offering video-link appointments to those who need help with more complex financial products, such as mortgages.

"And it's by using this branch in new and different ways, serving both the members who want to visit us and the members who don't, that we can ensure it's sustainable into the future."

The announcement follows the news that Kenilworth's Halifax branch will close permanently this Autumn.

Residents can contact Nationwide regional director Andrew Westhead about the change in opening hours by email at: [email protected]

Kenilworth Nub News has contacted Nationwide to confirm the exact opening times from November 29.
