Kenilworth car park will remain free after ‘amazing’ community response to survey
By James Smith 4th Mar 2026
The Kenilworth public has been thanked for its "amazing" response to a recent town council survey over the future of Castle Green car park.
Earlier this year Kenilworth Town Council asked for feedback on the spot near Kenilworth Castle as it looked to put together a long-term plan for its maintenance.
After over 1,000 locals sent in their feedback, the council confirmed last week Castle Green will remain free to use.
Cllr Alan Chalmers said: "There are two quotes in the feedback which really sum up what people felt about it.
"The first is: 'If it is free people, cannot expect investment - fill the holes and leave it at that'.
"The other was 'the parking allows me to use that side of town with my two small children on a budget'.
"I think the vast majority, 78 per cent, said they would rather keep the area as free parking as it is currently."
The potholes at Castle Green car park have since been fixed.
The town council is now looking for a more durable surface for the area which will stay in keeping with the local area.
Cllr Chalmers summarised: "Basically - leave it as it is for the moment, but find a longer time solution for a durable surface so it won't have to be fixed every six months, but is in keeping with the local area."
Cllr Andrew Milton added: "I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this.
"One thing I think this council is doing well is addressing things that have been put on the too difficult pile by the previous councils.
"Putting them on the too difficult pile actually makes them more difficult. I appreciate this one is difficult."
