Communication by HS2 has once again been criticised by Kenilworth councillors following the announcement of the 14-month closure of Dalehouse Lane.

The busy link into town will shut over over a year from the start of April to finish the new bridge which will eventually carry the road over the new rail line.

While the closure dates have been shared widely by HS2, councillors questioned how well the rail developer and its contractors Balfour Beatty Vinci had done in promoting a public information event organised to give locals the chance to ask questions on the works.

Speaking at last week's Kenilworth Town Council meeting, Cllr Adrian Marsh said: "The latest news is that work continues to proceed and the closure of Dalehouse Lane has been announced and it will start on 7 April.

"It is interesting to note the invitation to the consultation that was taking place at the Kenilworth Centre, a number of the leaflets arrived late.

"My leaflet arrived on the day of the event - after it had closed.

"I question how successful BBV's communication has been on this occasion.

"Although it is well known that the closure is taking place."

HS2 has run multiple public information events in the town centre over the past few years, although councillors have previously raised concerns about attendance numbers.

HS2 has confirmed it will close Dalehouse Lane from Tuesday 7 April 2026 until Monday 7 June 2027.

Design details for the 50-metre bridge for Dalehouse Lane have already been approved.

Residents have already been quick to criticise the closure, with some labelling it "madness".

Kenilworth councillors have previously criticised HS2 for last-minute closures of roads, changing timings without notice, or failing to consult them on works around the town.
