Have your say on future of car park at Kenilworth castle
By James Smith 21st Dec 2025
Local residents are being asked to share their views on a car park at Kenilworth Castle.
The town council is seeking views on the future of the hard standing at Castle Green.
An online consultation has been launched, asking locals how frequently they use the piece of land, what they use it for and what impact parking charges would have.
A notice from the council said: "Kenilworth Town Council are currently reviewing the condition and use of the hard standing area of land at Castle Green, commonly used for parking.
"We would like to gather the views of as many of our residents as possible concerning their use of the area to aid our research.
"We would greatly appreciate a few minutes of your time to complete...[the]...Google form."
Previously the town council turned down a request from a resident to make the car park permit holders only.
The council has also shared some more information on the area of land:
- The area has Village Green status. Ownership and responsibility is vested in the town council and relevant legal advice has been sought.
- The area does not form part of the castle nor the gift to the people of Kenilworth. The area is not a scheduled monument.
- The area is in a poor state of repair and requires attention due to health and safety concerns.
- Maintenance of the area is solely funded through Kenilworth resident's precept and this has been on a minimum level to date.
- All options are being considered as we approach the setting of the precept in January.
- The town council is not looking to generate an income from this area. Rather the review is based on safety, maintenance and future planning.
