The Kenilworth Lido Campaign is set to hold a vigil outside Abbey Fields Swimming Pool this Friday and Saturday to raise awareness of the ongoing fight to keep the outdoor pool.

Buoyed by the recent success of its COP OUT public meeting and the continuing excellent response to the petition which has now reached over 2500 signatures, Kenilworth Lido Campaign Group is "ramping up the action" with its next event.

'Lights Out for Kenilworth Lido' takes place on Friday 26 November and Saturday 27 November to coincide with the town's Christmas light switch-on events.

The vigil will be held from 6am on Friday morning until 2pm on Saturday afternoon.

The group has stressed that it will not be blocking pool users from entering Abbey Fields Swimming Pool during the event.

Group members are also keen for any members of the public who would like to see a Lido retained in Abbey Fields to join them at any time during the vigil, which is being spearheaded by local former Paralympian Melanie Barratt - now herself a keen outdoor swimmer.

A video of Melanie speaking outside the pool can be seen at the top of this page.

A spokesperson for the campaign confirmed that the event will be a peaceful celebration of what should be the "jewel in the crown" of Abbey Fields and a reminder of what the town will lose in the next few weeks if Warwick District Council follows through with its plans.

They added: "There will be no picket line and we encourage the public to use the pool as normal during the vigil, but please do stop by to say hello and have a chat."
