RSPCA put down badger with broken pelvis and dislocated leg found by police
A badger with a dislocated leg and broken pelvis found by Kenilworth police officers has been put down after vets were unable to save it.
Officers found the badger, which had been hit by a car, on the side of the road in the village of Stareton on Saturday morning.
The animal had also bitten through its own tongue and was taken by the RSPCA to a local vets.
It could not be saved and was put down humanely.
A Kenilworth Police spokesperson said: "Unfortunately the badger that was collected alive in Stareton this morning has been humanely put too sleep at Vale Vets.
"The badger suffered a dislocated rear leg (possibly a broken pelvis) and had bitten through its tongue as well as a nasty injury too it's chin."
An RSPCA spokesperson added: "The poor badger had sadly been struck by a vehicle, causing extensive injuries.
"He was taken to a specialist wildlife rehabilitation centre for treatment but sadly could not be saved.
"It's very sad how many animals sadly lose their lives on our roads, especially at this time of year when many have young."
