Kenilworth Town Council has given an update to residents regarding the suspension of services to Kenilworth Railway Station.
Operators West Midlands Railway announced at the beginning of January that no rail service would stop at Kenilworth "until further notice" starting from January 18.
WMR stated that this was due to "train crew shortages, and protection of mainline services for key workers."
In response, Kenilworth Town Council wrote to WMR to ask a number of questions of the rail company, most notably "Under what circumstances will WMR consider reinstating the rail service to Kenilworth?"
The town council also asked "Would WMR support the Council in an approach to Cross Country requesting that their services stop at Kenilworth?" A subject that has been discussed frequently by supporters of the station after criticisms of WMR service along the line have continued.
Kenilworth Town Council has now received a response from WMR promising a meeting with councillors to discuss improvements to reliability of the service.
The town council has said: "Yes the town council has had a response in which WMR says it is committed both to restoring the service and to meeting with the council to discuss how both this and improving the reliability of the service and the viability of the ticket office can be achieved as soon as possible."
Kenilworth Town Council has also confirmed that they are continuing to pursue every avenue available to ensure the reopening of the station comes as quickly as possible.
"Councillors are very conscious that it's less than three years since the train service restarted in 2018 after a gap of more than 50 years and that it was a £12+ million project to secure the service.
"The town council is also looking to the county council, the local MP, the Department for Transport and The Office of Rail and Road to take action.
"For the town council, having a thriving train service and ticket office is important for both residents and visitors to the town, especially because it encourages a more climate change friendly form of travel."
