Quantity Surveyor

Location: Balsall Common, Solihull
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Birmingham team in the West Midlands. To be considered, you will come from a Civil Engineering or Construction background and be interested in working on a high-profile and unique infrastructure project. The ideal candidate will have to hold a full UK driving licence, as travel between sites is necessary.
The successful candidate will assist the Senior Quantity Surveyor and commercial team by providing support in managing all costs and contractual aspects of the project. The position requires an individual who is keen to progress and develop their career whilst working in an impressive civil engineering environment.
Key Accountabilities to include but not limited to:
- Price and agree project Compensation Events under a NEC3 form of contract, in a timely manner whilst maximising our recovery
- Administer the contract (and subcontract) conditions and identify and prepare timely contractual notices for all events
- Assist in robust record keeping protecting our contractual entitlement
- Procure supply chain orders in a timely manner that accurately reflect the scope of works and administer these accurately valuing, certifying and issuing relevant payment notices
- Assist the Commercial Lead with monthly CVR reports, ensuring they accurately reflect the current position on site and the final projected figures
- Comply with company policies and procedures
- Achieve or exceed budgeted targets by looking for V/E opportunities, alternative methods of completing the works and buying gains from S/C Procurement
- Undertaking other commercial duties as reasonably required from time to time by line manager
Experience/Knowledge:
- Experience working on large civils infrastructure project, ideally with a Main Contractor or Employer
- Preferably experience of FRC/structure works in a civils environment
- Support commercial lead on commercial aspects of the project
- Solid understanding of contract law and terminology
- Experience working with NEC3 or NEC4 Option C is desired
- Experience working with NEC3 or NEC4 Options A, B, D, E is also beneficial
- Capable of autonomously producing compensation event quotations and administering change in accordance with the contract terms and conditions
- Ideally experienced in providing some support in the production of CVR s
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Quantity Surveying or similar technical qualification (HND HNC)
- Royal institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Membership (desirable)
- CSCS Card
Skills:
- Ability to use a range of IT packages, Microsoft Office and bespoke packages
- Experience with contract management software such as CEMAR
- Highly numerate with strong excel skills and capable of understanding and using formulas
- Excellent communication skills, both oral & written
- Punctual with a positive attitude at all times and the ability to integrate and play an active part in the construction team
- Genuine desire to progress and pursue personal development and CPD
- Exceptional relationship building skills
- Self-motivated and proactive commercial awareness and understanding of the construction process
- Negotiation skills and ability to apply those skills internally, externally & with our supply chain
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines
