Wasted chances cost Kenilworth Wardens as RS Sports came from behind to seal a 4-3 victory and move 11 points clear at the top of the Coventry Alliance Division One table.
Wardens went into the table topping clash knowing that they would need to be at their best if they were to beat the only side to have defeated them so far this season.
The performance, which manager Eamonn Richards described as the "best of the season", was not reflected in the final score as the hosts squandered a number of guilt edged opportunities.
Wardens had limited RS' chances in the first half, with the away side getting increasingly frustrated with Wardens' stout defence.
However on 30 minutes a hopeful ball into the Kenilworth box hit Andy Legg's trailing arm and the referee pointed to the spot and the penalty was dispatched to put the away side 1-0 ahead.
After going behind Kenilworth began to dominate the ball and create chances. Tom Griffith could have scored, but the RS keeper made a smart save to block his shot from Eamonn Richards' free kick.
Smart pressing from Wardens won them possession in the final third, but Luca Vale's low finished was dragged wide.
It was Vale who found the equaliser. On 40 minutes he picked the ball up 25 yards away from goal and hammered the ball straight over the RS keeper into the back of the net to make it 1-1.
RS were to retake the lead within two minutes. A long ball over the top to their right winger was controlled neatly on the right hand corner of the Kenilworth box and then volleyed past a stranded Andy Whitehouse in the Kenilworth net.
Sam Taylor then found Kenilworth's second equaliser just before half time. Lee Jassi did well to hold up the ball and then play Guy Pearson into the RS box who pulled back for Taylor to slot neatly into the top left corner.
Wardens then went in front for the first time just five minutes into the second half. Jassi was played in between the RS centre back and full back before opening his body up and slotting into the bottom corner to make it 3-2.
It was then RS' turn to come from behind. Smart work down the right hand side allowed their winger to enter the box and pull the ball back to an unmarked striker to fire across the goal into the bottom corner.
The away side then took the lead for the third third time in the match. On 70 minutes a slaloming run from their centre midfielder allowed him into the box to slide the ball past Whitehouse for 4-3.
Wardens then threw everything to find yet another equaliser. Switching from a five man to three man defence Kenilworth created a number of chances which they failed to take.
A few smart saves from the RS keeper coupled with a header over the bar from Pearson from the edge of the six yard box meant Kenilworth were resigned to their second defeat of the season.
