Kenilworth Wardens Reserves put eight past Whitnash to reach the final of the Peter Toogood Cup.

Adam Hnat and Dan Twigger each bagged a hat tick, with Guy Pearson and Jack Thomas also getting on the scoresheet as Wardens booked their place in the final on June 1.

Wardens began the game well looked dangerous from the start with Twigger, Sean Povey and Pearson looking dangerous up front.

Pearson created three early chances and only good saves from the Whitnash keeper kept the game level.

Wardens opened the scoring on 15 minutes. George Shelton played a long ball to Povey, who excellently controlled the ball on his chest, juggled the ball in the air before hitting an inch perfect 40 yard volley to Pearson down the left hand side. Pearson excellently crossed first time to Twigger who powered a header past the Whitnash keeper.

Five minutes later Wardens doubled their lead. Twigger caught the Whitnash left back on the ball and powered past him to the byline, his cut back found Povey who shaped to shoot before unselfishly laying to Pearson, fooling the Whitnash defence and keeper, leaving Pearson to pass into the bottom corner from 10 yards out.

Whitnash pushed for a goal to get back into the game and got their reward on 35 minutes. A long ball forward was nodded down to the unmarked Charlie Clarkson, who ran towards goal and slipped the ball under Andy Whitehouse.

The Kenilworth keeper was called on again shortly after as Whitnash tried to find an equaliser. His best save was on the stroke of half time, when he managed to turn over a goalbound free header from a Whitnash free kick.

Povey received the ball on the right hand side minutes into the second half, beat three players and pulled back with his right foot from the byline, finding Hnat to tap in four yards out into the empty goal.

Manager Adam Maltby made four early substitutions in Eamonn Richards, James Butler, Thomas and Mark Hickey who helped the hosts dominate the rest of the game.

Richards' corner minutes after coming on was controlled six yards out by Povey, who held off two men before laying off to Hnat to poke home through a crowd of players.

On 63 minutes Wardens played some controlled football around midfield, Richards played to captain Ross Farquharson. Farquharson played an inch perfect pass down the line to Twigger, who sprinted past his man and crossed to Thomas to tap in from a yard out, for his first touch of the game.

On 76 minutes Wardens made it six. Whitehouse played out to Shelton from a goal kick, Shelton and Richards played the ball between them under pressure before Richards passed to Ryan Hoey. Hoey turned and passed to Twigger who pushed back his defender and shot front a tight angle.

His shot was excellently saved but Hnat was on hand to head in the rebound - Hnat scoring his first hat trick for the club.

On 80 minutes Wardens scored another. Richards, Shelton, Hnat and Butler kept possession at the back before Butler played to Thomas. Thomas expertly beat three players down the left hand side before crossing to the unmarked Twigger to tap in from three yards out.

With five minutes remaining Whitnash had a player sent off for a bad tackle and then the subsequent dissent to the referee.

With a couple of minutes left of a game Butler took a throw in to Mark Hickey in the box. Hickey rolled his man easily and crossed to Twigger who nonchalantly volleyed in from two yards out. For Twigger's second hat trick in a week and his 41st goal for Wardens this season across all teams. This also capped Hickey's first assist for Wardens.

Speaking after the game Maltby said: "I'm delighted, really pleased for everyone who was there today.

"We started brightly and died off a bit towards half time where we let them back in with a goal but I'd said at half time, if we grab the next we go on an win comfortably due to the additional quality on the bench.

"The lads worked extremely hard in the sun so it was a great shift.

"Dan's been banging in goals for fun, it was great to see a very unselfish side of Povey today when potentially he could've scored to turn provider and obviously I'm delighted for Adam getting the perfect hat trick, very well deserved for getting in the right areas.

"Looking forward to the final and it will be great to see a decent crowd hopefully and in the evening sun should be a great occasion."
