Kenilworth 22-64 Bridgnorth
To the neutral observer this was a very good game of rugby with lots of skill and panache from both sides.
Bridgnorth were however the more powerful, fitter and stronger side, and were therefore able to offload in the contact area and keep the ball alive, resulting in an emphatic victory.
In the first fifteen minutes it was all nip and tuck with both sides giving their all. There was parity in the scrum and lineout and Kenilworth's forwards did a great job even though they were the smaller side.
After 15 minutes Bridgnorth scored a converted try off a lineout drive to make it 7-0 to the visitors. The second try came from a similar move off a driving lineout when the Bridgnorth scrum half went blind side to score another converted try.
Kenilworth showed much more tempo and resilience to stay in the game and had early chances in the opposition 22 but just could not put the finishing touches to promising build ups.
Bromsgrove scored again this time from again up the blind side. Kenilworth were really trying to stay in the game but gave away too many penalties.
From a lineout move only five metres out Bridgnorth decided to go wide off the phases and scored in the opposite corner. Things opened a little at this stage in proceedings, with Kenilworth now on the back foot.
A yellow card to centre Harry Kaufman did not help.
Bridgnorth scored another try from the centre drop out, through their left winger due to greater continuity and sustained pressure. Several more tries followed and finally Kenilworth scored through a forward drive off a driving maul from a lineout scored by Javier Teu-Blanco. This made the score at half time 5-40.
In the second half Kenilworth strung some really nice moves together and managed to score first through a charge down and chase by Adam Collingwood who had an excellent game.
Bridgnorth replied with another score in the corner from their left winger. Kenilworth replied with a score from a driving maul off a lineout, scored by Ted Bromwich.
Bridgnorth continued to pressure and after several phases they scored through their fly half who spotted a mismatch in the defensive line.
This was quickly followed up by another try off a lineout with a driving maul. Kenilworth were now looking for a bonus point try which came through Bobby Thompson after effective work by the back line. Will Morgan converted.
The final try came from Bridgnorth from yet another driving maul from a lineout.
Kenilworth remain at the bottom of Regional One Midlands, however hope springs eternal, points mean prizes and the squad have everything to fight for. Man of the match for Kenilworth was Scott Randall who was instrumental in the lineout, aligned with his organization and lines of running.
