Kenilworth Wardens put six past Balsall and Berkswell Hornets to kick start their preseason.

Coventry Alliance Division Three side Hornets stepped in at short notice after Wardens were let down by another side.

Preparing for their first season in the Coventry Alliance Premiership, Wardens started brightly and had several chances before Dan Twigger opened the floodgates on 20 minutes, tapping in after the impressive debutant George Ferridge's shot was save.

Twigger scored another two in the next 10 minutes, with brilliant through balls by captain Luca Valle and Ferridge.

Twigger's fourth on 35 minutes was the pick of the goals, when Wardens' patient build up released James Butler down the left, with his excellent cross finding Twigger's head 10 yards out.

Four to the good at half time, and Kenilworth started the second half in the same vain, dominating possession and creating chances.

Toby Wells made it five after being played in behind by Eamonn Richards, crossed to Ferridge whose blocked shot fell back to Wells to drill home - Ferridge's third assist of the game.

The debutant then got his deserved goal on 65 minutes when Phil Rudd played him in behind to stroke into the bottom corner.

Hornets continued to work hard and got a goal back from a corner before finding a quick second after an error from Richards.

The game finished 6-2.

Speaking after the game manager Eamonn Richards was pleased with his side's performance and grateful to Balsall for stepping in.

"Firstly I wanted to thank Hornets gaffer Tom Brooks for agreeing to play at short notice, Balsall have a great set up and I expect they'll be successful this year under Brooks," he said.

"The new additions, Stan Moss, Toby Wells and George Ferridge were all impressive and can see how they will all play there part for us this year. Alex and Charlie Waters and Jack Skelcey all fitted in well too.

"Our build up play at times was great, we controlled the game for the majority, shape off the ball was good.

"Improvements will need to be made in terms of shape, match fitness and decision making, but really good first preseason game, no complaints with the lads, all 15 had good games with a great attitude!"
