Kenilworth Sporting lost just their fifth league game of the season to Barnt Green Spartak much to the disappointment of manager Martin Ascroft.

Joe Simms flicked the ball in from a corner on 31 minutes to give the Bromsgrove team their tenth point from the last four games.

"Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and and admit that we were not good enough," said Ascroft.

"As a team we set our own standards, and on any given weekend you can allow for one or two lads to drop below the required standards, unfortunately today there were far to many just not at it.

"I can't and won't take anything away from BGS who wanted more from the game than we did."

Sporting now sit fourth in the Midland Football League Division Two with four games left to play.

"We did have chances to score and actually get something from the game, but we were not clinical enough in front of goal, the penalty miss with 10 mins left summed up or day," Ascroft added.

"We still have four league games and a semi final to go, it's up to me and my staff to right the wrongs from that performance and get us back to the standards we have set for the majority of this season."
