Kenilworth host Studley to get 2024 season underway

Kenilworth Cricket Club's first XI kicked off the 2024 league season with a winning drawing against Studley CC.

Studley won the toss and elected to bowl first. 

Kenilworth made 158, being bowled out in the 47th over. 

Joe Atkinson made a strong 44 opening the batting with several low scores around him.

Waj Chohan provided useful runs down the order, with a score of 42 off 54 balls. Louis Smithson and Chris Prophet also contributed with 16 and 13 respectively.

For the visitors, both Harris and Ahmed shone with the ball taking four a piece from 10 overs each. Rhodes also chipped in with two wickets for Studley. 

In reply, Studley could muster only 125 runs for nine wickets, having also used three extra overs.

Wickets were spread around for the Kenilworth bowlers, Lawrence and Kumar took one a piece whilst DPR and Cope took two each.

Standing out with the ball however was Shingler, taking three for 25 off 12 overs. For Studley, Moss contributed the highest with 33 from 91 along with several other contributions in the low teens. 

A winning draw in Huxford's first league game as captain puts Kenilworth second place in Division 2. 

Saturday 2nd XI

The 2nd XI were due to travel to Leamington Khalsa but the match was abandoned due to the recent rain.

Sunday Friendly 

The Sunday side hosted Rowington in a friendly at Warwick Road, with Kenilworth winning the toss and electing to bat first. 

Matt Bain and Pete Huxford opened up for the K's , setting a good platform with 26 and 44* respectively.

Babu also made 41 (8x4s) and captain Matt Casey chipped in with 17. Kenilworth eventually got to 187 for seven off their 35 overs.

The pick of the away bowlers was Scott Haywood, taking two for 25 off his five overs. 

Rowington got to 167 for six off their 35 overs, handing the Sunday side the win.

Haywood made 46 and Jon Udall a well made 66, including four sixes and three fours. Sam Leach, on return took one for 13 with Matt Casey and Babu also taking one each.

Tom Best came away with the most impressive figures, with returns of three for 23 off seven overs, including two maidens. Rory Sullivan taking the only catch of the innings behind the stumps.
