All three Kenilworth Cricket Club Saturday sides were in action this weekend, as the league season is finally underway.

The first eleven hosted Nuneaton in a tight and entertaining affair, whilst the seconds and thirds recorded wins at Coleshill and Moreton-in-Marsh respectively.

Nuneaton (187 for 10) beat Kenilworth (184 for 10) by three runs in a tight match this Saturday.

Visitors Nuneaton took an entertaining game down to the last over of the match and clinched the win in the Warwickshire County Cricket League Division One game this weekend.

Looking well placed and on course for their first win of the season, a Kenilworth batting collapse put pay to their hopes of chasing down Nuneaton's score of 187.

The home side lost their last five wickets for 19 runs as a revitalised bowling attack ripped through the Kenilworth tail in the last eight overs of the match. They were to be bowled out for 184, four runs shy of claiming victory.

Skipper Connor Shingler was the top-scoreer with 60, with Tom Booker just behind on 59.

Stuart Cope made 25 and Chris Prophet 17, but their efforts were in vain as Nuneaton's Muhib proved to be the match winner taking four for 25 late on. This added to Bixas earlier taking three for 40, Sharp two for 36 and O'Neill one for 41.

Kenilworth's bowlers had kept Nuneaton's run total fairly modest. Joe Atkinson took four for 16 from 9.2 overs, Shingler two for 37 from his 11 and Cope two from 43.

Darius Potten-Ravanshad and Jack Howard took a wicket a piece, whilst Dave Edmunds clung onto two outfield catches.

Gilles hit an impressive 83 for Nuneaton and Rehman 46; the latter batting at nine and crucially adding 53 in their ninth-wicket partnership.

Kenilworth CC 2nd. XI

Coleshill (194 for 8) lost to Kenilworth (197 for 4) by six wickets in their Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 7 East game this Saturday.

This followed the side's winning draw against Bablake last time out.

Dave Smithson starred with the bat as he guided the seconds to a win at Coleshill hitting an unbeaten 75 (8 x 4) from the number three spot.

The Kenilworth side managed to chase down Coleshill's score of 194 with 15 balls in hand.

Smithson put on 71 for the second wicket with youngster Shyaan Imam who made 39. Charlie Stranks hit 29 and Josh Charlwood an unbeaten 23 as the side reached 197 for four to record a six wicket win.

Earlier, Shazad made 82 and Brown 48 in Coleshill's total with Islam chipping in with 26.

The Kenilworth wicket takers were Kapil Dubey who took an excellent three for 16, Dave Gamble two for 38 and skipper Sam Leach one for 26.

Run outs accounted for the other two wickets. Wicket keeper Henry Curran bagged a catch and took a stumping for the side to kick start their season.

Kenilworth CC 3rd. XI

The thirds took a nine-wicket win over Moreton-in-Marsh this Saturday as the Kenilworth sides reached the required total of 121 in just 23 overs, and losing just one wicket.

Will Thompson took the bowling honours for Kenilworth taking a fine three for 7. This was followed by Will Machin (two for 19), Matt Dadswell (two for 28) and Louis Smithson (one for six). Stotesbury had made 36 and Evans 25 for Moreton as they reached just 120.

Replying, Kenilworth's openers put on 60 for the first wicket with Uma Shanker hitting 26. Youngster Yash Joshi went on to post his deserved maiden senior half century, hitting an unbeaten 52.

Joshi teamed up with fellow young teenager Thompson who made 23 not out as they guided the side to victory.

Pavey-Edwards with one for eight was the only Moreton bowler to be rewarded with a wicket.
