Kenilworth Cricket Club have bounced back from a disappointing Bank Holiday weekend to claim two wins this Sunday.

The Sunday sides were unlucky last weekend, losing to Coventry Ramblers and Tanworth and Camp Hill.

They were however, able to sweep those results under the carpet yesterday as the A's beat Barby, and the B's turned over Hockley Heath.

Kenilworth Cricket Club Sunday XI 'A' v. Barby

Kenilworth Sunday XI 'A' 159-8 (40 overs) beat Barby 103-7 (40 overs) by 56 runs in their 40 overs a side friendly yesterday.

Jono Sparks took 5-10 off his eight overs, and the first top four wickets to fall as Barby tried in vain to chase down Kenilworth's score of 159-8.

Elliott Haynes-Sorrell was the top-scorer for the side with 27 (4 x 4), Sparks made 25 with the bat (2 x 4, 1 x 6), Shyaan Imam 23 (2 x 4), Sam Leach 18 and Dan Roden 14 not-out for Kenilworth.

Barby used eight different bowlers, seven of whom took wickets. There were braces a piece for Webb 2-20 and Thompson 2-37, as the others were shared around.

Following Sparks' devastating burst at the start of the Barby innings, the home side never recovered and were always on the back foot.

This until a fifth wicket partnership of 59 between Jacob 34 and Westley - who went onto to make an unbeaten 41. This gave their score some respectability, but Barby were by now too far behind the run rate.

Charlie Stranks took 1-19 and Roden 1-34, as Barby limped to 103-7 at the close.

As Kenilworth secured a good 56-run win, the praise must go to birthday-boy Sparks who lit up the match with his five wicket haul.

Kenilworth Cricket Club Sunday XI 'B' v. Hockley Heath

Hockley Heath 170-9 (40 overs) lost to Kenilworth Sunday XI 'B' 129-9 (29.2 overs) by 1 wicket in their 40 overs a side friendly yesterday.

In a rain affected match, Kenilworth had veteran Dave Smithson to thank as they reached their target with four balls to spare, and with their last wicket standing.

Hockley Heath had posted a very respectable 170-9 from their 40 overs as Murtaza was the top-scoreer for the side with 26 and Irfan 25.

Extras did in fact total 43, including 22 wides after some wayward Town bowling.

However, Christian Mortlock took 3-21 as well as two outfield catches for Kenilworth.

Deen Shafiq claimed 2-29 and young Dan Barrie a fine 2-10 off his eight overs of leg spin. There was a wicket each for fellow youngsters James Sparks 1-30 and Louis Smithson 1-23.

Kenilworth lost 10 overs to the rain and their batting target was reduced to 128 off 30 overs.

It was number three, Smithson who held the innings together as he regularly lost partners on his way to a match-winning and unbeaten 58 (2 x 4).

With only four balls left of the match, and nine wickets down this was a match that could have gone either way, but Smithson nudged the ball for two crucial runs that gave the side a win.

Earlier, Barrie had made 16 and Will Thompson 12, the only other batsmen to reach double figures as Aktar took 3-27, Arfan 2-13, Murtaza 2-33 and Raheel 1-11 for the visitors in an entertaining and close match.
