Residents are being asked to have their say on a cycle route along the Kenilworth Road in Leamington Spa.

Warwickshire County Council is still unsure when the Kenilworth to Leamington Cycleway will be finished - more than a year after agreeing to the project.

Speaking at yesterday's full council meeting Cllr Wallace Redford said he was also unable to say when building the cycle route would even begin.

A planning application for the Kenilworth to Leamington Cycleway is yet to be submitted nearly a year after plans were given the green light.

Warwickshire County Council gave the go ahead to the 5km cycleway on January 28 2021, but is yet to finalise its design.

A Liberal Democrat campaign to create safe cycling routes in and around Kenilworth, that began in 1986, has helped to achieve a new milestone when Warwickshire County Council's Cabinet meeting on 28 January approved funding for K2L – a new cycling route linking Kenilworth and Leamington.

Cllr Andrew Milton (Liberal Democrat St John's), a Kenilworth cycling advocate, said: "Kenilworth is likely to witness an increase in congestion as new developments and HS2 construction gather pace. K2L is an integral part of our desire to see a truly integrated active transport strategy that improves safety and wellbeing plus reducing pollution and congestion.

A vote at Warwickshire County Council's Cabinet Meeting today (January 28) gave unanimous approval for the Kenilworth to Leamington Cycleway.

The proposal was for "the development of the Kenilworth to Leamington Cycle Project and to authorise the Strategic Directors for Communities and Resources to take all steps required for the implementation of the scheme."
